Chapter 27

A Letter in Kashmiri

Srinagar

My dear -------,

Mum was writing a letter to you.  I was blowing my kãng*r.  It is still cold out here, but a few days earlier the weather was real good.  In the garden the forsythia bloom looks very pretty. Sitting in the winter room, I am watching this scene.

During the last few days our neighbours dropped in to convey their good wishes to us. This, we thought, was a good gesture. We talk less though, and listen more to what people say. We share love and compassion. We embrace everyone. We suggest that we must always live joyfully. Only that is up to us.

Lots of love, full of longing, for all of you. May you rejuvenate and bloom, God willing!

Yours affectionately,
Dad
